Last week on a Thursday night, Judge Kurt Engelhardt ’78, addressed the members of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association’s Crimson & Gold Network at their social in the Bro. Mark Thornton Terrace on campus. He spoke about the educational foundation he received at Brother Martin High School and how well he was prepared to meet life’s challenges. Judge Engelhardt also stressed the importance of being involved in extracurricular activities while in high school. As a former Drum Major in the Crusader Band, he was able to learn various leadership skills that would become instrumental throughout his career in his role as judge. He also discussed the importance of knowing the history of our court system, a system that was put together by our forefathers. In closing, Judge Engelhardt shared his past experiences in the courtroom during his time as judge.
Judge Engelhardt received his Bachelor of Arts in history in 1982 and his law degree in 1985 from Louisiana State University. He also served with the Louisiana Fifth Circuit Court of Appeal, as an associate with Little, Metzger and Lamz, and as a partner at Hailey, McNamara, Hall, Larmann & Papale. In 1995 he served on the Louisiana Judiciary Commission, when in 1998 he became Chairman of that Commission. Judge Engelhardt is a member of numerous professional organizations which include the Advisory Board of the New Orleans Chapter of The Federalist Society and the American Judicature Society and Federal Circuit Bar Association. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans. Judge Engelhardt is an avid runner and has completed thirteen marathons.
In addition, Ryan Bordenave ’94 of the Downtown Development District and Sr. V.P. of Finance and Administration at GNO Inc. Jeffrey Teague ’91 updated the group on local business. Attendees enjoyed food from Dean Pigeon ’06/Pigeon Caterers and beverages,and could also receive raffle prizes.
