In continuing with the 50/150 Anniversary Celebration, Brother Martin welcomes celebration and remembrance throughout the school year of our long-standing history. On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Crusader families, friends, and partners in mission gathered together at the Southern Yacht Club for a morning of prayer and reflection for the 14th Annual Prayer Breakfast. The event is sponsored by our Parents Club and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Alumni Association and is held annually in remembrance of Brother Martin Hernandez, S.C.,our school’s namesake.

Former principal and president of Brother Martin, Mr. John Devlin served as the keynote speaker. Devlin took this opportunity to share a story of a young man who was presented with unlikely circumstances in his young life. In the past, this story was presented to Brother Martin juniors on their retreat with a message of “Never ever doubt what prayer and talking with God can do for you,” proclaimed Devlin.

Mr. Devlin reminded listeners, in his personal story, that it is the quality of the young man’s response to events in his life that he demonstrates the mettle that God has given him to carry through good and difficult moments. Devlin conveyed, “It is not about doubt or uncertainty, and scripture is full of lessons and stories, but so are the people around you.”

In the fall of 2018, Devlin was entrusted by the Brothers of the Sacred Heart to serve as the Executive Director of Schools. “In John’s new role, now all of our schools can witness first hand his sense of calm and God-centered approach to every task,” said school President Greg Rando ‘77. Devlin continues to use his vocation to educate young men and women for life throughout the United States Province. His mission consists of, but is not limited to, working closely with the Brothers’ schools through strategic planning consulting, advancement strategizing, and leadership development. He is also the Director of the Coindre Leadership Program, the province’s intensive program to develop future school leaders among the partners in mission.
