Dr. Jouandot’s Biology class took to the Biology lab for DNA testing this week. Crusaders utilized the solubility and spooling properties of DNA in a sodium chloride solution to extract their DNA from cheek cells. After performing the DNA extraction the students were able to visually observe their DNA. Then, they ran their DNA on agarose gels. Also, students had the opportunity to compare the differences in separation techniques between protein and DNA samples. Following DNA testing then the Crusaders will be studying bacteria and viruses in class.
