It's All Science…

IMG_3573This past week the Chemistry and Physical Science classes worked in the lab under the supervision of Dr. Jouandot, Mr. Thomas, and Mr. Valiente. Crusaders experimented with colors of flames for their flame tests that exhibit to the students how elements give off identifiable colors when heated. In addition, students will have a better understanding why fireworks are colorful and can identify which elements must be in those fireworks for viewer enjoyment.

In addition, Environmental Science classes instructed by Mr. Thomas dissected owl pellets. These are the regurgitation of North American owls. The students were able to sift through the owl pellet, finding bones of various organisms the owls have eaten. This lab is done in conjunction with the study of food chains and food webs. Students were given examples of skeletons of various organisms that owls typically eat and then had the opportunity to reconstruct the skeletons.
