Every year, the Brother Martin community joins together for several opportunities to give back to their community. This week, several Crusaders chose to participate in one of those opportunities which was the “Blood Battle” Blood Drive hosted by Ochsner. The Bloodmobile opened its doors to Crusader juniors and seniors, faculty members, and to Crusader families. During the drive, 29 units of blood were donated throughout the day.
Senior Braden de Lanzac commented, “There is no better feeling than giving someone else a chance to live. Anyone can give blood, and it feels good to do my part in someone else’s life. I’m proud of my fellow Crusaders who also chose to give a little for a lot.”
Ochsner also gives back to the community and to Brother Martin by awarding a scholarship at the end of the school year to a student who donated blood at either of the year’s drives. For every pint of blood that is donated this school year at either of our blood drives, by either students or parents, Ochsner will ‘donate’ $10 per pint to the scholarship fund and choose a senior – out of the ‘hat’ of senior blood donors – to receive the scholarship fund that will be sent directly to that student’s college or university to be credited to his fees. Last school year, Brother Martin juniors, seniors, and some of their parents donated a total of 56 units of blood and one of those senior donors was chosen to receive the $560 ‘scholarship’ from Ochsner that was credited toward his college fees!
Thank you to all who participated in the effort to help save lives!
