Brother Martin High School announces that Mark Bonis is returning home to resume his duties as head football coach of the Crusaders. “After a few days in Memphis, I realized that I missed my players, my coaches, and my entire Brother Martin family,” said Bonis. “I am extremely grateful to Principal Greg Rando, Athletic Director Scott Williams, and the entire school leadership for allowing me the opportunity to return as the head coach of the Crusaders. Brother Martin is home for me.”
Rando said that Bonis contacted him about the possibility of returning and that the decision was an easy one. “Mark called and said he wanted to come home to his family and to Brother Martin,” commented Rando. “After consultation with the rest of the school leadership team, the decision was unanimous that we wanted Mark back since our search was in the very early stages. He has done a tremendous job of forming our student-athletes, leading our football program, and developing the young men in his care. The football program is performing at a high level on and off the field, and we feel that the continuity of Mark’s returning is in the best interest of our students and the entire institution.
Williams said that Bonis will resume his duties at the school immediately. “Mark is back as our head football coach effective immediately,” Williams said. “I would also like to thank the many well-qualified coaches who applied for the position. It speaks volumes as to how well respected our school and our athletic program is viewed by others in the state.”
Brother Martin has a record of 18-6 over the past two seasons and lost 49-48 to eventual State Champion Catholic High School of Baton Rouge in the 2015 playoffs. The team reached the semi-finals in 2014.
