Guests Gather at 11th Annual President’s Dinner

3JR_0830Brother Martin High School held its 11th annual President’s Dinner Saturday evening at the Windsor Court Hotel beginning with cocktails followed by a five course meal. President’s Dinner Committee member, Chuck Stall ’76 led guests in prayer and all were welcomed by P. Lindsey Williams ’83, Committee Chair, who introduced John Devlin, President of Brother Martin High School.

Mr. Devlin thanked the President’s Dinner permanent sponsor – The Gootee Family – represented by Kathy and Ken Gootee ’70. He also thanked Chairman P. Lindsey Williams ’83 and his wife Jodi for initiating the discussion which resulted in this annual event. Mr. Devlin then recognized guests seated at his table, Brother Ivy LeBlanc, Councilor, Bro. Francis David, former Provincial of the New Orleans Province, Bonnie and Greg Rando ’77, Principal, and Erin and Joe Caruso ’79, Phase III Steering Committee Co-chair.

Following the recognition of guests, Mr. Devlin explained that the generosity of last year’s attendees allowed Brother Martin to contribute to the construction of a multi-purpose gym at Bagumbuhay Elementary in the Philippines. On display were photos of the gym’s construction and dedication. He also talked about Brother Chris Sweeney’s work at the Brothers of the Sacred Heart Mission Amatongas in Mozambique, Africa. This summer Mr. Rando is leading a working group of Brother Martin faculty to Mission Amatongas in Africa to assist Brother Chris with summer projects. In closing, Mr. Devlin summarized Part I of Phase III – modernization and expansion of Food Services and relocating the Library to the second floor. Moving the Library begins in June, along with preparing the current Library space for expansion of Food Services. Part II of Phase III adds square footage, AC, and a multi-use dimension to the Conlin Gym.
