It may not be a white Christmas, but for the students at St. Benedict the Moor school in Gentilly Woods, it will be a joyous Christmas! On Wednesday, three students on their day off (Daniel Benitez, Greg Beaumont, and Raymond Price) and three staff members (Barry Hebert, Marilyn Meyn and Judy Stewart) delivered the bus load of presents to the excited boys and girls. The Crusaders read stories, passed out the presents, and then served cookies and juice to the eager children. In return, each class had prepared a musical “thank you” for us. There was a hand-bell choir, a group of carolers in pajamas, and a collection of sweet voices that would warm any cold winter day!
On behalf of Mrs. Drue Dumas, Principal of St. Benedict the Moor School, her faculty and staff, and the families of the children, THANK YOU for your generosity. The smiling faces were worth a million words, but every single child expressed his/her thanks as they carried their presents back to their classroom. When one small boy was asked when he would open his gifts, he replied “Not until Christmas morning.” On the bus ride back to school, Greg Beaumont commented that “there were several moments when I realized I was really glad I did this.”
Once again, thank you to all who participated for your compassion and generosity. These youngsters will have a wonderful, joy filled Christmas thanks to you!
