Last night, under the lights of Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, the Crusaders defeated the Holy Cross Tigers 5-2. Catcher Cody Ducote went 3-for-3 with a double and a pair of RBIs to help lead Brother Martin to victory. However, talented freshman Corey Gaconi stole the show. He scattered five hits, allowing a pair of unearned runs in a complete game victory. Despite hitting three batters, Gaconi was in control throughout, striking out two batters and allowing no walks. He only needed 83 pitches to complete the job.
Other Crusaders contributing to the win were Daniel Lahare, Blake Battle, Jacob Seward, and Rivers Frederick.
The win moves Brother Martin to 5-1 for the season. The Crusaders return to action Friday at 4 p.m. against St. Augustine at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
