Congratulations to freshman Alan Merida for competing in the Tom Bell Silver Scribe Competition for area high school journalists held on Feb. 28 at Loyola University. Alan finished in second place in the Editorial individual event and third place in the Newswriting event.
Over 45 students from New Orleans area schools took part in the daylong competition co-sponsored by Loyola’s School of Mass Communication and the New Orleans Press Club. Professional journalists served as judges for various categories, including best news story, best news photograph and best overall newspaper.
