Over the weekend, members of the newly organized Brother Martin Fishing Club competed in the 70th annual City Park Fishing Rodeo. This event is sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and Berkley. The Battle for the Bass High School Tournament, the high school division of the tournament, consisted of 26 teams from schools in the GNO area. The Crusaders had 40 competitors making up nine teams. Crusader teams earned second and third place finishes in the tournament. Congratulations to “Team 7”: Sebastian Henry ‘20, Zaire Stevenson ‘19, Anthony Cangemi ‘19, Daniel Meyers ‘19, and Ethan Jeanes ‘21 on their second place finish in Battle for the Bass. Congratulations also to “Team 9”: Logan Schroeder ‘19, Matthew Winfield ‘21, Blake Mulligan ‘19, and Brock Bourg ‘19 on their third place finish. The LDWF is also working to promote fishing in high schools and to increase the number of clubs throughout the State of Louisiana.
Brother Martin Fishing Club gives students an opportunity to experience the unique angling environment that South Louisiana has to offer. Students participate in several fishing rodeos as well as team fishing trips that allow students to compare fishing techniques and strategies.
