Extra Innings!

Last night, Kirsch Rooney Stadium hosted a key district game featuring the Jesuit Blue Jays and the Brother Martin Crusaders. Jesuit prevailed 3-2 in 9 innings in a hard fought and well played game.  To start off the game, Center fielder Jacob Seward led off the bottom of the first with a perfectly placed bunt single up the third base line. DH Jarett Gongora was hit by a pitch giving the Crusaders their second base runner of the inning. A throwing error by the Jesuit pitcher on a bunt attempt from Cody Ducote allowed Seward to score the game’s first run. Right fielder Rivers Frederick followed with a RBI-single scoring Gongora to give the Crusaders a 2-0 lead.

Toward the end of the game, Jesuit scratched out a run in the fifth and sixth innings to send the game into extra innings. A fly ball to left field represented Jesuit’s third and final base hit.

The outcome of the game, coupled with Grace King’s 7-6 win against Rummel, created a three-way tie for first place between Jesuit (16-5, 2-1), Brother Martin (16-5, 2-1) and Grace King (13-3, 2-1). Rummel (14-7, 1-1) is a half game back of the leaders.
