On what most of us know as National Signing Day, Wednesday, February 5, 2020, seniors Noah Labbé, Jack Landry, Hunter Lassere, John Louis, Davonn Moore, T.J. Small, Chris Smith, and Nick Turner made their commitment to play at the collegiate level. The eight honorees were surrounded by faculty/staff, friends, and family in the Brother Mark Thornton Terrace on one of the most exciting days of their high school career.
Head Football Coach and Assistant Director of Athletics, Mr. Mark Bonis, along with Head Basketball Coach, Mr. Chris Biehl, recognized each player for his positive impact on the Crusader basketball and football teams:
Coach Biehl spoke on a few highlights for Army West Point Commit, T.J. Small. Small has left a legacy for his name at Brother Martin by setting the school record with 49 points made in a single game (breaking D.J. Augustin’s record). With 1379 career points as a Crusader, Small is the 7th all-time leading scorer in Brother Martin’s history.
Coach Bonis noted the several awards that his football players received while Crusaders. “Noah Labbé was honored with All-District Team, All-State Honorable Mention, New Orleans Quarterback Club Scholar-Athlete of the Week, and 2019 Bob Conlin Award recipient. Jack Landry was awarded the 2019 Special Forces MVP. John Louis was recognized as the 2019 Tough Award recipient. Davonn Moore was named to All-District Team, All-Metro Team, All-Clarion Herald Elite Team, All-State 2nd Team, and 2019 Tough Award recipient. Chris Smith was recognized on the All-District Team, All-Clarion Herald Elite Team, and 2019 Finish Award recipient. Hunter Lassere was honored as the 2019 Finish Award recipient. Nick Turner was named the 2019 Compete Award recipient.
