Art I students were given instruction in the understanding of Positive and Negative space. Positive space is the physical object being drawn. Negative space is the space surrounding the object. Once students are able to see the negative space around the object, then they are able to draw more accurately.
In this particular project, the students had to analyze and draw the bugs/insects and their natural patterns. They then had to draw shapes intersecting the bugs/insects. Where the shapes intersect the bugs, they used the negative reversal process to demonstrate an understanding of negative space.
