Congratulations to the Crusaders, who claimed the outright District 9-5A championship title on Friday night by defeating the Holy Cross Tigers by a score of 74-58. This district title is the first for the Crusaders since 2012 and now they look to take it to the next level in the playoffs. The Crusaders started the game slow and found themselves down 22-7 at the end of the first quarter. However, in the second quarter Brother Martin scored 20 unanswered points and did not trail the rest of the game. Tyler Epps and Tyler Lilly were double the trouble for the Tigers as they paced the Crusader offense and scored 17 and 11 points. Jeremy Singleton also had a big offensive night and scored 13 points, including two three-pointers. Other contributors for the Crusaders were Bruce Jordan- Swilling (eight points), Tré Swilling (eight points), Davonn “Peanut” Moore (eight points), Vejon Wallis (five points), Blake Zamjahn (two points), and Pattre’en Hughes (two points).
Our Crusader basketball team will take on the Jesuit Blue Jays on Saturday, February 25 in the regional round of the state playoffs. Tip-off is set for noon in the Conlin Gymnasium. Admission to the game is $7 for adults and $3 for children 11 and under. Faculty id’s will be honored for this event.
