Jordan Lumpkins, tournament MVP, and Jordan Cornish combined for 38 points as Brother Martin beat Chalmette 71-61 on Saturday night to win the 20th annual Valero/Chalmette High Christmas Classic. It was the 10th straight win for the Crusaders (15-1), who were ranked No. 1 among large schools this week.
Brother Martin opened the game with an 11-0 run on 5-for-5 shooting. Chalmette (8-6) missed its first six shots and trailed 13-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Crusaders continued to build their lead in the second period. Cornish took a pass from Jabbar Singleton, draining a 3-pointer with 15 seconds left that gave Brother Martin its biggest lead, 38-19, at halftime.
