The Brother Martin Crusaders began the Allstate Sugar Bowl CYO tournament in an exciting game against the Newman Greenies on November 30, 2016. Both Newman and Brother Martin started the season by winning three games straight. However, Brother Martin would end Newman’s winning streak with a 60 to 43 victory.
The game began with both teams playing very competitively. Junior Tyler Lally made two early three-point baskets to give Brother Martin momentum. Newman had managed to keep the game close going into the second quarter. The Crusader’s defense played aggressively with great hustle, leading to multiple steals and forced shot attempts by Newman.
At halftime, the score was 30 to 26, and the Crusaders would go on to extend their lead in the second half. Junior Tyler Lally consistently knocked down shots all night. His performance helped the Crusaders to develop a late surge to put Brother Martin up 13 points going into the fourth quarter. The Crusaders continued to increase their lead in the fourth quarter. Brother Martin would end the game with a very impressive victory over the Greenies 60 to 43.
The Crusaders never lost the lead in the game. Tyler Lally led the team with 30 points, and drained four three-point shots. Other contributors in this game were Samer Mosrie and Tyler Epps who both scored eight points. Go Crusaders!
