Several of our Crusaders journeyed to Washington, D.C. to participate in our annual Close Up trip. Through site visits, lectures, and workshop activities, our students learned the political process hands-on and were encouraged to develop their own political efficacy.
A few of these Crusaders shared reflections on their experiences:
Martin Nuila: "I was thrilled to join this Close Up program that would introduce people with vastly different environments and political views from what I am usually surrounded to."
Michael Hymel: "Throughout these workshops and debates, I learned how to voice my own opinions more effectively, while also listening to other people’s opinions."
Jay Childs: "We learned about how Capital Hill functions on a day-to-day basis, and we were introduced to different policies in an attempt to improve our political literacy. I am grateful for my time at Close Up as it helped me realize the importance of participating in local and national politics and the potential impact my voice can have on the nation."
Max Musso: "Over the week, I had made friends from all over the country, and I had learned more about government than I had ever imagined. This trip was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I am very grateful for being able to be involved with Close Up."
With this experience, these Crusaders took the initiative in their pursuit of Academic Excellence.
