On January 16th, Brother Martin Student Council Executive Board members Marvin Hudson ‘16, Patrick Newburger ‘17, Brandon Hebert ‘17, and Joseph Porche’ III ‘16 traveled to Alexandria, Louisiana to attend a conference sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Student Councils. They were joined by members of student councils from schools across Louisiana. Students were welcomed by the host, Pineville High School, for a three-day weekend of idea sharing, collaborating, and motivational speeches.
The guest keynote speakers were John Beede, renowned mountain climber, and Kevin Laue, the first one-handed division one basketball player to receive a scholarship. Beede and Laue encouraged the audience to find the summit of one’s life and journey to reach goals and use a weakness as an advantage. Other activities included student-lead exchanges for students to discuss how to get better involved in their schools.
The weekend also included campaigning and elections for state officers. Brother Martin served as President in 2013-2014. AM Barbe High School was elected president, and Catholic High School was elected vice president for the 2016-2017 school year.
