Crusaders Sweep the Weekend

DSC_0104-Chase DollyAfter a wet week with limited practice, Brother Martin was excited to get back on field, and it really showed as the Crusaders went 4-0 on the weekend scoring 32 runs while only allowing 16.

In a back-and-forth affair against Destrehan on Friday, the Crusaders took a 4-3 lead in the seventh inning and held on for the victory. Brother Martin scored on an RBI single by Kyler Johnston, scoring Luke Bernard.  Johnston racked up three RBIs on three hits for Brother Martin Crusaders Varsity.

In the first game of a Saturday double-header, Brother Martin never trailed after scoring one run in the second inning.  The Crusaders piled on two more runs in the top of the third and added three more runs in the top of the fifth.

Blair Frederick collected three hits, helping lead the Crusaders to a 6-3 victory over East Ascension on Saturday at East Ascension.

Keagan Gillies allowed no earned runs, three hits, struck out six and allowed one walk over five innings.

In game two of the double-header, Brother Martin beat Dutchtown on Saturday 8-1 at East Ascension in seven innings. The bottom of the first saw the Crusaders take an early lead, 1-0.  Brother Martin would capture the lead and keep it after scoring two more runs in the second inning.

The Crusaders added to their lead with one run in the third inning and one more in the fourth. They then scored three runs in the sixth on an RBI double by Jacob Parker, an RBI single by Mason Bonnafons, and an RBI triple by Blair Frederick.

Luke Bernard pitched seven innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out four in the win.

To make up for a Thursday night rain out, the Crusaders faced off against St. Amant on Sunday afternoon.  Brother Martin beat St. Amant thanks to 14 hits, including four extra base hits. The Crusaders scored eight runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Jacob Parker, an RBI single by Mason Bonnafons, a two-run single by Blair Frederick, a two-run double by Jonathan Parker, an error, and an RBI single by Joel Bergeron.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the sixth, with nine lead changes.

Doug Fair got it done on the mound allowing three runs over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out three, walked none and surrendered eight hits.

Frederick, Kyler Johnston, Parker and Bonnafons helped lead Brother Martin. They combined for eight hits and 11 RBIs.
