As a follow-up to the “Mock Crash” that took place at Brother Martin in December 2017, our sophomores, juniors, and seniors participated in a “Mock Trial” assembly this morning, Friday, April 6th in the Conlin Gymnasium. The program, sponsored by University Hospital, the Louisiana State Police, and the Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office, presents our students an opportunity to experience the potential judicial ramifications of driving while distracted. Our hope for our students is that they make wise decisions – whether they are driving vehicles or riding as passengers – and that they realize that every decision they make could possibly impact so many people. This presentation is a powerful representation of the consequences of poor decision-making while traveling in vehicles.
In this scenario, the students and parents involved in the accident that occurred at the “Mock Crash” demonstrate the events that ensue at trial in a court of law. Local prosecutors, defense attorneys, and an active judge preside over the events. Members of Mrs. Melanie Williams’ Civics AP and honors classes made up the twelve member jury.
Thank you to all of our student participants, parents, Sudden Impact Louisiana Program, and judicial state officials for participating in such a moving and powerful experience for our young men.
