Hosting Jesuit in the second game of district play, Brother Martin (16-6, 1-1) fell short to the Blue Jays 62-60. The Crusaders started slow trailing by as many as seven points in the first quarter, but eventually got things going and finished the period only down three. A good second quarter from the Crusaders resulted in a 35-35 tie at halftime. Brother Martin went on a 15-8 run in the third period to capture a 50-43 lead as the quarter came to a close. With time winding down, the Jesuit shooter was fouled while driving to the hoop and sank two free-throws with 4.2 seconds left giving Jesuit a two point lead. The Crusaders’ hopes ended with a failed three-point attempt as time expired.
Brother Martin will look to bounce back with a win on Friday vs. the St. Augustine Purple Knights at St. Augustine. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm. The 9th grade team will play at 4:30, and the JV will play at 5:45.
