Second quarter has been a very busy time throughout the World Language curriculum! Brother Martin’s language diversity is evident – as seen in our curriculum:
Chinese with Mr. Barnitz: The seniors are expanding their oral language skills, as well as learning to write the characters in basic Mandarin.
German with Mr. Valiente: The students studied vocabulary related to Oktoberfest, and also discovered the cultural origins and significance of the festival for the German people.
Latin with Mr. Merritt: In all Latin classes, the students continue to parse verbs and declensions through Mr. Merritt’s ability to make the wisdom of the ancients seem timeless.
French with Ms. Oestriecher: All French classes are diligently continuing to maneuver the intricacies of the language. French I students are building their foundation in the language; the French II students continue to learn to integrate the previous year’s work improving their French skills and adding more tenses to their repertoire. French III students are discovering the satisfaction of being able to read in another language as they begin reading their first short novel. The French IV classes are continuing to develop their skills in reading, writing, and speaking their respective language.
Spanish I with Ms. Tregre: Spanish I classes continue to hone their oral language skills with their short videos while demonstrating their speaking proficiency.
Spanish II with Mrs. Choina: Spanish II classes have continued their language discovery in a cultural context by creating projects illustrating Mexico’s traditional Day of the Dead.
Spanish III and IV with Mr. Reller: Spanish III classes, now steeped in the target language, are learning how to “fine tune” and increase comprehension and oral proficiency through a new component to the World Language Department’s favorite App, Duolingo. The Spanish IV classes are continuing to develop their skills in reading, writing, and speaking their respective language.
