Brother Martin pitcher Keagan Gillies proved to be the difference in the non-district contest between the Crusaders and St. Charles Catholic on Wednesday afternoon.
After being retired in order in the first three innings, the Crusaders finally broke the scoreless tie by plating one runner in the fourth inning. The team added another run in the fifth on hits from Jacob Parker and Joel Bergeron and a costly error by St. Charles.
St. Charles Catholic threatened the Crusader lead after scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Crusaders staved off the late surge as St. Charles Catholic was unable to match the Crusaders down the stretch.
Starter Keagan Gillies allowed one run on five hits in his seven innings and walked just one. He also struck three.
