The Crusader swim team celebrated Senior Night at their district meet on October 23, but were ready to get back into action in the lanes. In district, the Crusaders competed against local swim teams while securing a third place finish. Then, the Crusaders were back in action for the annual Metro Championship meet on October 26 and 28 at the UNO Aquatics Center. It consisted of 31 teams from throughout the New Orleans Metro area. It is also the second biggest championship meet of the season, behind the state championship meet.
Coach Bordelon commented that “for the swimmers, this is a great final step before their most important meet of the year. In Saturday’s finals session, we had three individual events and three relay events. I could not be prouder of how the swimmers performed against some of the fastest competition in the state!”
The individual team scorers were Ryan O’Connor in the 100 yard butterfly, Kevin-James Watkins in the 100 yard freestyle, and Alex East in the 100 yard backstroke. The top relay finishes were the 200 yard freestyle relay made up of Jonathan Bullock, Paul Monaco, Ethan Sens, and Sam Montgomery; and the 200 yard medley relay made up of Alex East, Ryan O’Connor, Jonathan Bullock, and Kevin-James Watkins.
Congratulations to the Crusader swim team for their strong finish in the meet!
The Crusaders will back in the water for the State Championship on Friday, November 17, 2017 and Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Sulphur Recreation Center in Sulphur.
