Crusaders Explore Marine Sanctuary

IMG_0183Crusaders in Mr. Dossaji’s 8th Grade Environmental Science Class spent the afternoon exploring the Flower Garden Banks Marine Sanctuary in the Gulf of Mexico.  Students used The Resilient Planet Interactive Simulation to operate a ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) to maneuver themselves through the sanctuary and study the ecosystem of Leatherback and Hawksbill sea turtles.  Using their knowledge of food webs, the Crusaders researchers were able to identify the various species in this ecosystem.

The Operation: Resilient Planet Game is an immersive 3D experience where students assist JASON Host Researchers like Dr. Bob Ballard in solving real-world ecological issues by using scientific inquiry, along with instruments and procedures mirroring those of the researchers.
