On a cold Friday night, the Brother Martin Crusaders (5-1-5) and the Jesuit Blue Jays met for a district showdown at John Ryan Stadium, and after two periods, the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
The Blue Jays started the match off slow , and Brother Martin nearly took advantage in the 10th minute. Junior Miles Francis made a run down the sideline and sent a cross into the box to freshman Blake Robbins. The Jesuit keeper came up with a kick-save to keep the game scoreless.
The Blue Jays had two scoring chances in the first half. The first came in the 31st minute when the Blue Jays missed a shot wide of the net. Jesuit threatened again in stoppage time, but the Brother Martin defense was able to clear.
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays took the lead early in the second half with a goal coming in the 43rd minute off a shot that deflected in off senior keeper Thomas Peters. Brother Martin turned up the pressure in the final 10 minutes of the match and got the equalizer in the 76th minute. Senior Will Thiele scored with less than five minutes remaining off a header from senior Austin Bourgeois.
The Crusaders are back in action on Wednesday, January 14th at 3:30 pm on Farley Field against Holy Cross.
