Crusaders Earn Superior Ratings at Festival

IMG_9395The Crusader Band joined the Dominican Debs at Joe Yenni Stadium for their annual performance at the LMEA District VI Marching Band Assessment on Monday night!  Every year, this event represents the high point of the fall semester, and the Crusaders, along with the Debs, consistently prove themselves with Superior Ratings for more than 30 years.  It is also the single event where we take pride in measuring our status as an award winning Band and Dance Line…not just a group that performs at football games and parades!  We measure ourselves against the best bands in the region and state at this fall assessment.  Never will one see this spectacular group perform with more intensity and spirit than at this event.  Ratings from categories such as General Effect, Musical Precision, Marching Execution, and Auxiliary Coordination are considered by a panel of judges.

The program consisted of a variety of music from the traditional Latin opener to Pop music to Classical to Brass Band.  The performance started with the John Higgins’ fiery opener, “Firestorm!” Next, the Band featured the Debs while performing Pitbull’s “I Know You Want Me.”  The Drumline came to the fore with Marty Hurley’s arrangement of Dvorak’s “Slavonic Dance #1.”  Then, the Crusaders closed the 2017 festival show with Youngblood Brass Band’s “Brooklyn!”  During “Brooklyn,” featured solos were performed by Stephen Gonzales ’18, Ben Doster ’18, Jonathan Dunn ’18, Allan Merida ’18, and Marshall Webre ’21.
