St. Augustine didn’t put up much of a fight on Tuesday, as Brother Martin (20-3, 4-1) cruised to a blowout 10-0 win in five innings at Kirsch-Rooney.
Brother Martin (20-3) scored in the first after a leadoff triple by Daniel Lahare. Lahare scored on a fielder’s choice off Jarett Gongora’s grounder to shortstop.
Brother Martin piled on three more runs in the bottom of the third. Gregory started the scoring with a two-run blast over the outfield fence, plating Gongora who reached base with a sharp single in the previous at bat. Owen Magee followed with a double, and he scored on Raphael Deroche’s single.
The Crusaders scored four runs in the fourth on an RBI single by Jarett Gongora, an RBI double by Gregory Deichmann, an RBI double by Owen Magee, and an RBI single by Raphael Deroche.
Deichmann, Magee and Gongora helped lead the Crusaders to victory, combining for eight hits and seven RBIs in the game.
Brother Martin’s Luke Bernard kept St. Augustine off the scoreboard for all five innings he was on the hill, throwing a shutout, while only allowing two hits and striking out four.
With the win, Brother Martin moves into a first-place tie in District 9-5A with Jesuit who lost 7-2 to Shaw, putting both at 4-1 in district.
The Crusaders will hit the field next against Archbishop Shaw on Friday night. The game will take place at UNO’s Maestri Field at 6:30 pm.
