Tuesday night, the Brother Martin Crusaders opened the playoffs against East Ascension and cruised to a 9-1 win in seven innings at Kirsch Rooney Stadium. The Crusaders were the first to get on the board scoring three runs in the bottom of the second on an error and a two-run single by Seward. East Ascension scored one run in the top of fourth inning, but Brother Martin answered right back with three runs of its own scoring on a passed ball and a two-run triple by Cody Ducote.
The Crusaders scored their final three runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Jarett Gongora, an RBI single by Jacob Seward, and an RBI single by Daniel Lahare.
Seward racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Crusaders.
Tyler Zamjahn struck out nine batters en route to the Crusaders’ 29th win of the season. Zamjahn allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk over 5 1/3 innings.
Brother Martin’s next game will be against the winner of the Denham Springs vs. Captain Shreve game.
