Crusaders Chop the Lumberjacks!

IMG_1297Saturday, September 7th marked the start of the 2013 Crusader football season, and Brother Martin found themselves facing off against the Patterson Lumberjacks.  After a scoreless first quarter, Patterson found the endzone first, but the Crusaders answered right back with a rushing touchdown from Jared West.  Patterson was able to score again before the end of the half to make the score 12-7 after two failed PATs.  After another scoreless quarter, the Crusaders opened it up in the 4th quarter.  Running back Jared West had a key run on a fourth and inches play near midfield, going 51-yards for the touchdown that gave the Crusaders a lead they would not relinquish.  Brice Johnston scored on a late five-yard touchdown run that capped a 15-play drive spanning five minutes to put the Crusaders up two scores with less than four minutes to play.  West finished with 2 TDs on 22 carries and 157 yards, and Johnston had 80 yards on 23 carries and a TD of his own.

The Crusader defense was also a key factor in this win.  The defense had continuous pressure on the Patterson QB resulting in 3 sacks and 4 interceptions in the game.

Before the game, the Student Council sponsored a tailgate for all the student, parents, and faculty full of fun, food, and games!

Brother Martin heads to the Westbank Friday night to take on the John Ehret Patriots at Hoss Memtsas Stadium at 7:00 pm. Go ‘Saders!
