Larson blends his compelling narrative style with primary source research, a technique that made his earlier books, such as In the Garden of the Beasts and The Devil in the White City, bestsellers. This account of the sinking of the luxury passenger ship Lusitania in waters off the coast of Ireland in 1915 takes place two years prior to the United States’ entry into World War I. This book contains an incredible array of subject matter that features history and diplomacy, the science of submarines and torpedoes, and the personal narratives of survivors.
