Crusaders Attend “Unity Day” Workshop

DSC_0077Five Brother Martin sophomores attended the annual “Unity Day” workshop sponsored by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) on Friday, February 10, which was held on the campus of Loyola University’s Law School.  Approximately 200 high school students from public, private, and Catholic schools in southern Louisiana attended the workshop.

The workshop began with a keynote speech by U.S. Attorney General Kenneth Polite.  Students then spent the rest of the day in small discussion groups in which they got to know the other students in their group.

The day ended with a talk given by Ann Levy, a Holocaust survivor who survived the Jewish ghettos established by the Nazis in Lodz and Warsaw, Poland during World War II.  After Mrs. Levy’s moving talk she answered questions from the high school students. The Brother Martin students who attended are expected to work with Brother Martin’s social justice club called “Welcoming Diversity” to bring back what they learned during “Unity Day back to our Brother Martin students.
