During the anniversary weekend of Roe v. Wade, a group of 27 Brother Martin students, along with faculty moderators, joined together for the 45th annual rally and the 2018 March for Life. The March took place in front of the National Mall to the U.S. Supreme Court. Prior to the march, our Crusaders were able to experience parts of Washington D.C. and join other New Orleans area students for Mass and other rally events.
After their bus trip from New Orleans, Crusaders arrived on Thursday and experienced The Holocaust Museum and browsed throughout the Monuments placed along the Nation’s Capital. In the evening, our Brother Martin group joined hundreds of other March for Life attendees at a “Life is Very Good Rally” at the Eagle Bank Arena sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Arlington.
On Friday morning, Crusaders had the pleasure of experiencing Mass with Archbishop Aymond ‘67 CJ at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Alexandria, VA. From Mass, the group departed for the National Mall where the 45th annual rally and March for Life took place. In the evening, reflection and discussion was provided for our students along with Eucharistic Adoration, Confession and Praise & Worship music.
Senior Francisco Garcia, member of Crusaders for Life club, reflected on his time and experience at this year’s March for Life.
“Going into the March for Life trip, I thought it was only going to be a fun trip to Washington D.C. to go to interesting museums and marching down a couple of miles with everyone. It became way more than that for me and I believe everyone on the trip felt the same way. It was an eye-opening experience and I would never have thought I would feel this way. The trip opened my heart… I felt joy and pride to be able to stand up for what we, as the Archdiocese of New Orleans, believe in. When I held our Archdiocese’s flag to guide all of the people from New Orleans on the March, I found a deeper meaning for why we were there that day in our Nation’s capital. I want to thank everyone who made the trip memorable because I would not have wanted it any other way.”
Thank you to our Brother Martin community for praying along with our students during their journey to Washington D.C. for the 2018 Annual Rally and March for Life.
