10801641_840122039364082_5459886017644274802_nAfter two tough losses for the basketball and soccer teams, it was up to the wrestlers to bring home a win for the Crusaders.  Brother Martin easily proved they are the dominate team in the State when they captured the title in the 16-team Live Oak Duals Saturday. After cruising through their pool, the Crusaders dominated district rival Rummel in the championship, losing just one match in a 70-4 win.

Fans got a possible state tournament match preview at 170 pound where Pierce Williams won a 10-9 thriller over Rummel’s Joe Kerry.

Matthew Montalbano was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler in the upper weight classes as he captured the 285-pound championship. Montalbano recorded an upset win over the Fontainebleau heavyweight 6-1 in their head-to-head matchup.

Brother Martin defeated East Ascension 73-4, Fontainebleau 57-10, St. Amant 71-3, and Zachary 67-3 to reach the championship match against Rummel.

The team will wrestle Wednesday against St Paul’s at 6:30 in the Conlin Gym.
