Crusader Tennis Claims 2019 State Runners-Up Title!

Congratulations to our Crusader Tennis program for finishing the 2019 LHSAA Boys’ Division I season as State Runners-up for the second consecutive season! The team finished second behind fellow Brothers of the Sacred Heart school, Catholic High School of Baton Rouge by a score of 16-12.5. Additionally, the Crusaders won district and regional championship titles this season!

Head Coach Lee McAlister was pleased with his program, saying, “We did a great job earning State Runner-up. Shout out to Matthew Armbruster '21, who is the heart and soul of this team and now the Singles State Champion.”

Armbruster, a sophomore, defeated Fontainebleau’s Gabriel Martin in the final, 2-6, 7-6, 6-1 to earn the individual state championship and conclude his undefeated season. “Even when I was down in score”, said Armbruster, “I just kept competing and stuck to my game.”

The team was also led by the doubles tandem of Hunter Kael ’19 and Jack Robinson ‘21. Kael and Robinson made a valiant run to the state semi-finals, falling to eventual state champion team from Catholic High, 0-6, 3-6.

Stay tuned for more coverage from the tennis state championships!
