Saturday afternoon, the Brother Martin soccer team opened the first round of playoff play with a 4-0 victory against Live Oak. In the 12th minute, senior forward Cullen Schultz scored on an assist from Peter Brooks to give the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. Live Oak had two quality chances in the closing minutes of the first half, but goalkeeper Andres Armenta made two great saves to keep the Crusader lead.
The second half was a entirely different story. The Crusaders scored 3 goals in seven minutes after figuring out the Eagle defense.
In the 52nd minute, Cristian Canales sent a corner into the box that was headed by Nathaniel Peters to Pierce Rubenstein for the score.
Three minutes later, Canales was fouled in the box and scored on the penalty kick that deflected off the keeper’s hands into the net.
Michael Rumney sent in a quick pass to Mark Mangum who finished it into the empty net for the final score of the game.
Brother Martin will play Mandeville on Wednesday with kick-off set for 5:30 at Pan American Stadium. Tickets to the game are $6. Come out and cheer on your Crusaders to victory!
