The Crusader rugby club is 2-0 after defeating the Bayou Hurricanes 5-3 on Saturday, February 3 at the City Park Rugby Field.
In its first game of the season, Brother Martin rugby beat Christian Brothers, a highly competitive team from Memphis, TN, with a score of 17- 10. The game included tries by captain Andrew Richardson and two by senior loose forward Jordan Glahn and a conversion by Josh Merritt.
In its first league game, the Crusaders played stout defense and held onto a 5-3 victory over last year’s state runner-up, the Bayou Hurricanes. Junior wing, Brendan Scripter, provided all the scoring for the Crusaders with a try in the right corner. Led by captain Sam Mosrie, the Crusaders repelled several Hurricane attacks late in the game to preserve the win. Senior centers, Vincent Rizzo and Jack Rau, held strong with their tackling all game to keep the Bayou Hurricanes out of the Crusader try zone.
Crusader rugby club will get ready for their next game against Germantown, from Memphis, TN, on February 17 in City Park. Great job, Crusaders!
