A ‘special’ performance helped Brother Martin knock off an old rival. As a result, senior kicker/punter Michael McCarthy was named the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club/SportsNOLA.com Prep Player of the Week for a perfect night in his school’s week two win over St. Augustine.
McCarthy (5-8, 163) set a school record with five field goals, going 5-for-5 with field goals of 36, 40, 28, 28 and 35 yards. The senior made all three extra points, scoring 18 points, and had three kickoffs for touchbacks. He also punted once for 38 yards as Brother Martin downed St. Augustine 36-22.
McCarthy will be honored at the season-ending meeting of the Greater New Orleans Quarterback Club on Monday, December 12 at the Embassy Suites Hotel.
