Crusader Football Prepares for the 2014 Season

IMG_0153For the Brother Martin Crusaders and Coach Mark Bonis, last year did not go as planned or expected.  Brother Martin finished 2013 at 4-7 overall and 1-4 in 9-5A.

The Crusaders hope for good things this season starting with the return of senior offensive lineman Rory Luke (6’3 252) and senior running back Jared West (5’8 183), who committed to Northern Colorado after receiving looks from Kent State, McNeese State, South Alabama, University of Louisiana-Lafayette, University of Louisiana-Monroe, and Utah.

Past Crusader teams have always been led by solid line play and great running back production. Bonis believes that this year will be exactly the same as the past.

Their are three other returning starters on offense, including tight end/wide receiver flex players in junior Irv Smith (6’2 219) and junior Peyton Aucoin (6’4 231). Smith is the son of former New Orleans Saints tight end Irv Smith.

The Crusaders return a starter at the most important position as junior Jake Broggi (6’3 183) is back with more experience and coming off of a solid spring.

The one player everyone is talking about that will be a huge contributor this season for the Crimson and Gold will be sophomore Bruce Jordan-Swilling.

After a superb debut as a freshman at running back, Jordan-Swilling (6’2, 215) will be a dynamic contributor in many facets in 2014.

Brendon Hayes is a 6’4 248 pound senior defensive lineman, who has received an offer from Mississippi State, and Jacob Parker is a 5’11 247-pound senior.  Both are expected to be leaders on the defensive line.

Another strength of the defense will the linebacker corps, led by seniors Roderick Teamer (5’11 202) and Mark Magee (5’9 207), along with Jordan-Swilling.

The Crusaders open the regular season on the road against tough 3A opponent Patterson.
