The last time Brother Martin’s bowling team lost a regular season match, Cody Schaffer '19 and the other four Crusader seniors were not yet teenagers.
Brother Martin wrapped up a sixth consecutive perfect regular season Monday, March 11 with a 22-5 victory over Holy Cross at Colonial Lanes in Harahan.
The Crusaders, as they’ve done countless times over the last six years, had the match wrapped up after the second game, building an insurmountable 14-2 lead.
Schaffer made an equipment change early in the second game and strung together seven consecutive strikes en route to a 256 game, keying a 1,235 team game for Brother Martin.
That would be the final regular-season game for four of the five Crusader seniors: Schaffer, Hunter Dunn, Will Oertling and Brandon Bonvillain.
Sophomore Drew Gardner had a 649 series to lead Brother Martin (12-0). Justin Ducote, the fifth senior on the roster, was the only other Crusader to bowl all three games.
Adam Popich had a 253 game and 628 series to lead Holy Cross (7-4), which closes its regular season Tuesday against Pearl River at Bowling USA in Slidell in a pivotal match for its postseason hopes.
Brother Martin, the defending state champions, could be seeded anywhere from first to fifth when brackets are announced Monday, March 18.
