The Crusaders (8-2) defeated East St. John 72-68 in a non-district game Monday night. Brother Martin started the game strong with Jordan Cornish forcing a couple of turnovers and capitalizing on the scoring end. The Crusaders finished the first quarter forcing seven turnovers.
However, the East St. John Wildcats scored on a few 3-pointers helping them take a 30-28 lead at the end of the 1st half.
Coming out of the half, The Crusaders opened up with a 16-9 run to take a 44-39.
In the final period, defense secured the victory for the Crusaders getting a few clutch steals and blocked shots which led to a 72-68 win over East St. John.
Jordan Cornish tallied 24 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals during the game. Drew Lewis added 18 points and three assists, and Venjie Wallis finished with seven points and five blocked shots.
Brother Martin (8-2) will face St. Paul in the opening round of the Valero/Chalmette Tournament on Thursday. Tip off is set for 7:30 at Chalmette.
