Crusader Basketball Gets Back on Track

salmenbrothermartin2 (1)In a physical and fast-paced game, Brother Martin jumped to an early 13-2 lead, but Salmen made two 3-pointers in a row putting the Spartans back in the game and setting the pace for a high scoring first quarter that ended with the Crusaders leading 20-15.  Going into the half, the Crusaders held an eight point lead with a score of 38-26.  Brother Martin had a sluggish 3rd quarter but maintained the lead heading into the final quarter of play.  Up by eight heading into the fourth quarter the Crusaders quickly extended their lead to 12, behind the play of Patrick McCree.  Brother Martin finished with a 63-46 victory.

Brother Martin shot 61 percent from the floor and received scoring contributions from seven players as the No. 2 Crusaders defeated No. 3 Salmen, who shot 38 percent, in both teams’ final game before district play begins.

Jordan Cornish led Brother Martin with 19 points, Jalen Gray added 17 and Jabbar Singleton had eight as the Crusaders (20-2) dominated the Spartans (15-5).  Also, Jordan Lumpkins and Patrick McCree contributed seven points each.

Also, congratulations to the jv basketball team for their 59-45 win over Salmen last night. The jv remains undefeated with a 9-0 record, and have also won 20 games in a row going back to last season.

Brother Martin looks to extend its winning to streak to three when the Crusaders open District 9-5A play Friday night against Grace King at Grace King.  The JV will tip-off at 5:45 with the varsity to follow.
