Crusader Basketball Advances to the Quarterfinals with Win Over Higgins

IMG_0033Last Friday night, the Brother Martin Crusaders played host to the Higgins Hurricanes in the LHSAA Regional round of the basketball state playoffs.  The Crusaders prevailed 58-48 and are now 29-6 on the season.  The first quarter did not look pretty for the Crusaders, committing eight first-quarter turnovers and never gaining the lead.  In the final minutes of the first half, Brother Martin went on a 14-9 run to close the gap and end the half with the scored tied 28-28.  Jabbar Singleton, Jalen Gray and Jordan Cornish helped ignite this run for the Crusaders.

The second half was another story for the Crusaders. Gray, Cornish and Singleton combined to score 13 of Brother Martin’s 15 third-quarter points. In the fourth quarter, the three of them accounted for 14 of the Crusader 15 points securing the victory.

Brother Martin hit 14 of 21 free throw attempts, including 12 of 15 in the second half.

Jalen Gray, Jordan Cornish, Jabbar Singleton and Jordan Lumpkins combined for all but one of the Crusader 58 points.

Brother Martin will travel to East Ascension to face East Ascension in the Quarterfinals Tuesday night at 7:00pm.  Tickets are $7 per person.
