Crusader Baseball Loses Early Lead; Falls to Rummel

_CAB2432The Crusaders (12-7, 0-1) jumped out to an early lead in the district opener against Rummel, but were unable to hold on as they fell 7-3 on Wednesday.

The Crusaders found the scoreboard first bringing in two runs in the top of the first inning. With the lead-off batters in scoring position, catcher Jonathan Parker sent a ball to deep left field for the sacrifice fly, bringing in the first run. Struggling to find the strike zone, Rummel then walked back-to-back Crusaders to load the bases before a third consecutive walk to Joel Bergeron plated Bonnafons for the second run.

In the second inning, with the bases loaded for a second time in as many innings, LSU commit Blair Frederick ripped a line drive into center field to up the lead to 3.

Going into the fourth inning, Brother Martin had a 3-0 lead, but Rummel’s bats came alive in the bottom half of the inning. Archbishop Rummel worked its way back and took the lead on a three-run double.

The Raiders would hold the lead until the final out.

Brother Martin will square off against Holy Cross on Friday at 7 pm.  The action will take place at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. Go ‘Saders!
