Delgado clinched the 2014 South Central District Championship and a berth in the Junior College World Series Sunday afternoon with their 7-6 victory over Seminole State College.
The Delgado offense was led by Cody Ducote ’13 who went 3-5 at the plate with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored. Also contributing to the Dolphin offense was Rivers Frederick ’12 who went 2-4 with 1 RBI, 1 run scored, and 1 stolen base. The Dolphins walked away with the 7-6 win and the South Central District crown.
Jonathan Ebersole ’13 earned the win on the mound, pitching five and a third innings in relief of Dolphin starter who exited the game in the third inning.
This marks Delgado’s third trip to the Junior College World Series, the first coming under former Head Coach “Rags” Scheuermann and the second berth in 2007, just two short seasons after Hurricane Katrina devastated the program. Delgado has earned eight of the past nine Region XXIII titles and appeared in the subsequent district regionals. Several clubs reached the championship game, but came mere outs away from the Championship.
Delgado will open play in the World Series on Satuday (May 24) at 7:30 p.m. against Chattahoochee Valley Community College(Alabama) at Suplizio Field in Grand Junction, Colorado. For more information, please contact Tyler Scheuermann at tscheu@dcc.edu.
