Cross-Country Wins Boys' Team Title, Individual and Open in Mobile Meet

image1The Crusader Cross Country Team blazed past opponents in the Mobile Challenge of Champions Cross-Country Meet in Alabama Saturday, taking the Invitational Boys team title, the Individual and the Boys’ Open Division.

The Open Division team scored 43 points to win over Pearl, MS, (79). Leading the scoring were top 10 finishes by senior Tyler Epps (2nd), junior Jackson Anuszkiewicz (4th),  and senior Michael Wilson (9th). Completing the scoring were sophomore Gabe Costa (11th) and senior Jackson Vicknair (20th).

In the Invitational Division, the team once again defeated Pearl, MS, but this time by a much slimmer margin 58-59. Setting the tone for the team by winning the race outright was junior Hunter Appleton, 16:33.42.

Accompanying Hunter in the top ten were senior Hayden Courrege and junior Cade Litolff. Although there was a gap between our 3rd and 4th runners, senior Ben Crowley and junior Michael Champagne held strong down the stretch to close our the team scoring with 23rd and 25th place finishes, respectively.

“I thought it might be close the other way,” BMHS Cross Country Coach Drew Haro told alabama.com. “Pearl had a really nice pack as they came in before our four. We had four or five together, but they had a string of four guys after their number one (runner), so I thought that we maybe lost by four or five.”
