The Cross Country program has hit the ground running, and team captains have been elected. At the beginning of the season, members of the varsity squad selected members who consistently demonstrate dedication, persistence, and hard work to take on leadership as captains. When the votes were tallied, seniors Jonathan Henneberg and Zander Hildreth, juniors André Roevens and Reid Kern, and sophomore Hayden Courregé were chosen as this season’ team captains. Except for the return of Jonathan Henneberg, the team is under new leadership. Henneberg has been an active member of the Cross Country program since his 7th grade year. In his second consecutive year as a captain, he hopes to see the team win a championship. Newly elected Zander Hildreth admits that being elected a captain was a bit of shock. “I was surprised, but honored that my teammates elected me captain.” During his fourth season on the team, Hildreth plans to set an example for the younger athletes.
Together, these five captains share many years of experience and numerous achievements, all of which contribute to the team’s impressive depth and aptitude. When asked about the potential of this year’s team, Henneberg stated: “This is one of the deepest teams that I have been a part of in the six years I have been involved in the program. It’s become a saying on the team, ‘And then there’s the kid no one knows about,’ when trying to guess who will be the starting seven. This shows to how hard every last kid on the team works throughout the season. It’s gonna be a dogfight for the top seven spots, but I wouldn’t expect it to be any different.”
