"NEW ORLEANS – An evenly matched series over the last half-century gets renewed in a new location Friday night on Crescent City Sports.
The 57th all-time meeting between District 9-5A rivals Archbishop Rummel and Brother Martin kicks off at 7 p.m. Friday from Southeastern Louisiana University’s Strawberry Stadium. CCS’ coverage will begin at 6:50 p.m., with Lenny Vangilder and Wayde Keiser describing the action.
The Raiders are 4-3 overall and 1-2 in Catholic League play, while the Crusaders are 5-2 and 2-1.
Rummel holds a slight 30-26 edge in the all-time series, one which has featured dominant runs by the two winningest coaches in Catholic League history. Brother Martin’s Bobby Conlin reeled off a 12-game winning streak from 1983-94, and Rummel’s Jay Roth, who passed Conlin for the league’s wins record in 2015, orchestrated 12 straight wins of his own from 1995-2006.
The teams are meeting for the eighth time since 2018, a stretch that includes three playoff games. The Raiders eliminated the Crusaders from the playoffs in 2018 and 2019, while Brother Martin ended Rummel’s season with a playoff victory a year ago.
Friday’s matchup has the potential to be as evenly matched as the series history. The teams have two common opponents thus far. Both the Raiders and Crusaders defeated Holy Cross by identical 14-7 scores, and both defeated Ouachita Parish in non-district play – Rummel winning 42-28 and Brother Martin 38-20.
The Crescent City Sports team is in its 12th season of producing live broadcasts for television and internet, having produced more than 400 live streams since 2012, and is continuing its extensive commitment to prep sports coverage on its website for 2022-23."
