Beautiful weather, a record number of contestants, “The A Team” DJ team and “the big stage” from Pelican Events combined for an amazing afternoon this past Sunday in the Backyard. Twenty-one dishes competed for “Top Chef” and Gold Medal awards and ten home brews competed for “Master Brewer”. Guest judges from local media, businesses and the New Orleans culinary scene selected the top dishes while Karl Hartdegen, brewer at Crescent City Brewhouse, selected the top brew. Attendees voted for their favorite dishes and brews as a “People’s Choice” award was presented in each category (complete results listed below).
The Brother Martin Cooking Team prepared and served burgers and other tasty delights, Boar’s Head prepared and served foot-long hot dogs and Eddie Gonzales ’77 served as emcee.
Rusty and Judy Buckman, Mary Beth and Jeff Haro ’74, Shiela and Ron Messina ’63 SA, Jerry Moll ’73, Casey Munson ’97, Beverly and Tim Napier, Roni and Debbie Sumich, Stacey and Mark Wisniewski ’81, Cissy Yakelis, Marie and Steve Yost serve on the committee.
